Bahrain 2010

Oh my gee, F1. F1 post is finally here.

Mixed feelings about the results, but overall quite happy and satisfied with Ferrari's one-two.

Man, haven't had a Ferrari one-two in ages.

So, breakdown of race?

Here goes:

New teams, new faces, familiar teams, familiar faces, strange car colours (have you seen the shade of yellow Renault painted their R30?), lack of Kimi Raikkonen, Schumi back in, Alonso in red overalls.

Watched the repeat of qualifying, but couldn't quite get round to who was who and where for the first half hour or so. Alonso's Ferrari, Button's McLaren, Kovalainen in a Lotus. I've still got remnants of the '09 season stuck in my head, and I think the Star Sports commentators do too.

You can totally hear Steve Slater hesitating when he tries to identify drivers (very much unlike the ease he had previously). It's all, "And that is the uh... Sauber of...de La Rosa," and you can no longer go "yellow-white, that's a Renault (check helmet colour here) belonging to Alonso", or "green-white, that's a Brawn with Barichello at the wheel".

Feels all strange.

But as you know, we all need to adapt to change.

And hey, Alonso's done it pretty well. The guy managed to bring it all together in the F10 (which, in my opinion, doesn't have enough red on it) and clinch a Ferrari one-two along with Massa (welcome back, man. We've missed you).

Aside from Ferrari's great condition, Red Bull look pretty good themselves. It was a race Vettel should've won, but the poor dude had some mechanical problem with his RB6. Tsk.

McLaren too seem to have picked up all the pieces from last year and are once again amongst the front runners (which currently include Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes and McLaren). I think Button had some tyre problems earlier on, but I dunno. We'll see. Plenty of races to go. It is, after all, just the start of the season.

I think Ross Brawn is going to be slightly disappointed with the pace of Mercedes GP. And it's interesting how Rosberg is doing better than Schumi.

Chandhok was pretty epic, 'cause he crashed on his fifth lap ever with his HRT car. Like, ever. No testing before qualifying at all. Good for him though.

No other car from the new teams (HRT, Lotus and Virgin) finished 'cept both Lotus cars. Congratulations to them then, 'cause I think it has to be some kind of accomplishment to actually finish the race (albeit three laps down). I hope Richard Branson isn't crying right now. Virgin has plenty of time to catch up (although I'm secretly vouching for the Malaysian team).

Yeah, I think that should be pretty much it for now.

First race doesn't necessarily define everything that's to come, but often enough the winner of the first race of the season wins the Championship.

Gotta go now, and think up a story line for English. Bleh.

Need to wake up early to fully utilise the "my-brother's-at-school-so-there's-peace-and-quiet-to-get-things-done" time tomorrow.

Night.

P.S. I miss seeing K.Raikkonen on the timing screens.

P.P.S. Forza Ferrari, forever and more.
